Sierra Leone Annual Thanksgiving Service
October is slated for the Annual Thanksgiving Service at Grace Episcopal Church in Jefferson City, Missouri. The first Thanksgiving service was held in 1999 because of efforts that were being made to end the 10 year civil war in Sierra Leone. Therefore, the Sierra Leone community in Jefferson City thought it fit to hold a service to give thanks to God for the good news about ending the war which had diplaced, killed and maimed thousand of Sierra Leoneans. Since then we have been having a yearly Thanksgiving Service which gives us the opportunity as a group to give thanks to God for his gracious mercy and goodness to us all and also asking God for his continued guidance and protection through the coming year. The service also gives us the opportunity to share a potluck dinner with parishoners of Grace Episcopal Church and our numerous guests. Proceeds from the service go toward the scholarship fund for secondary school students in Sierra Leone.
